Cityread London is a campaign to spread a love of books and reading to the widest possible audience throughout our capital
Cityread London rolls into town again on 2 April 2013, and this year we’re reading A Week in December by Sebastian Faulks. This state-of-the-nation novel set in London on the eve of the financial crash in 2007 explores themes such as terrorism, reality TV and drug addiction. Join us as we discover the seven main characters as they navigate their way through seven days in the capital.
Taking the themes of the novel as a starting point, we’ve lined up an amazing month of events taking place across London. Join a library book group, discover the history of the Tube, or swing by your local cinema. Or you can take part in our virtual book group without even leaving your sofa.
A Week in December
By Sebastian Faulks
London, the week before Christmas 2007. Over seven wintry days, we follow the lives of seven characters across the city, from a hedge fund manager to a Tube train driver. Above the complex patterns of modern urban life, the writing on the wall appears in letters ten feet high, but the characters refuse to see it . As the gripping climax looms, they are forced, one by one, to awake from their blinkered present to confront the true nature of the world they inhabit.
